big sur, the edge of the world

We were so excited to travel the Pacific Coast Highway and check out Big Sir, and it definitely did not disappoint!  It is absolutely beautiful and such a dramatic landscape that we kept calling it the edge of the world.

We waited too long to make reservations for the Los Padres National Forest Campsites and it was the weekend so all the first come sites were full -- luckily my cousin Greg told us about a little hidden clearing right on a cliff and gave us some directions to find it.  His hidden little campsite is one of the best kept secrets we have encountered on this trip.  I am so happy we wound up camping there - we had this amazing clearing on a cliff all to ourselves and it was right above this amazing beach that we wound up exploring and creating an installation at.   We had plans to arrive in San Francisco the next night otherwise we would have stayed a couple more days.

Here is a video i took on my iPhone showing a panorama of the campsite:

In the morning we went down to the beach and played in the surf with Nash, there were seals popping up - checking out what we were up to, nashy even ran up and sniffed one lounging on the beach.  are seals known to be vicious when defending themselves against dogs on the beach? We'll never know because, luckily, the seal ignored him.

For our installation we decided to build a drift wood Pacific Coast Highway along one of the cliffs on the beach.

We could have played in Big Sur all day - but we wanted to make in to San Francisco by the late afternoon, so after a while we jumped back in the volvo and winded our way north.
